TED2010 Prize winner Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution truck was a chance for Rockwell Group to become part of a nationwide initiative to bring food education to underserved communities and overcome childhood obesity. It incorporates the chef’s teaching concept into a mobile format, creating an unforgettable immersive experience while also teaching kids how to cook and eat healthy food.
The portable design creates a theatrical spectacle. Pop-out walls, mobile cooking stations, and an inflatable bandshell allow the truck to explode with life at each new location. Imbuing the cooking venue with fun and imaginative details such as bold graphics, a whiteboard map of the truck’s route, and whimsical cooking tools gives students an immediate connection with food. Not only was the truck’s interior an exciting space to learn, our intention was to make the design functional as well. Once cooking is done, custom-designed workstations can be arranged in clusters for demonstrations or lined up as a long communal dining table.
